      Good question. For me, my 3 indicators were: 1) A yellowish color to the water in a full bathtub. 2) The silicon around sink drains were no longer clear but stained a little brown. 3) And when I opened the toilet tank, in the corners I had sediment. It looks like 1/8 of an inch of brown flour and when I touched it, it would cloud the water. That's great news if you don't need a filter

    In the professional bid, what was the material proposed to do the job? Most reputable companies would use a hot rubberized crack sealant which would outperform and outlast any water or acrylic based sealant. In the short term money was saved but if an individual lives in the part of the world where weather changes are drastic the elasticity of a water based cold pour material is sub par and a temporary fix at best.

    I’m trying place your accent. I think I hear an Irish lilt + American accent, maybe more? So, an Irish expat/immigrant who’s been in the States for decades? 🤔

    • @DIYandSAVE
      @DIYandSAVE 7 месяцев назад

      You have a good ear. I am from Newfoundland, Canada which was settled by the Irish in the early 1800s. The accent has evolved a little over the years, but for the most part is still pretty strong. I left Newfoundland 30 years ago but managed to somehow keep the accent.

    • @MoPoppins
      @MoPoppins 7 месяцев назад

      @@DIYandSAVE That’s fascinating-never knew that about Newfoundland! If you left after early childhood, a native accent is usually there to stay, or it’ll often come out when people are tired or inebriated. 😆 Interestingly, even the mere MENTION of the original locale will often trigger people’s accents. Every time I’ve heard a person who was originally from the South (but was able to COMPLETELY lose their accent) mention that they were from there, they’d go back into the drawl. These were all public figures that I heard on podcasts or in other media, and worked as journalists, actors, musicians. I feel unsettled when I can’t place an accent, but am also intrigued by the potential backstory behind it. I’ve heard people w/ a mishmash of American (from various regions of the US), British & Italian accents, and I’d wonder what their upbringing, travels, and settlement have been like. It’s peculiar to me how some people don’t pick a certain pronunciation guide and stick with it-they’ll mix British & American vowels in the same sentence. I think that I personally would code switch, but some are just “mutts” with their accents, and by extension, their identities, as well. Human development & human psychology (and not just humans)…really interesting stuff! 🧐

    • @DIYandSAVE
      @DIYandSAVE 6 месяцев назад

      Agreed, very interesting stuff. When I make a quick visit back to Newfoundland, I notice a change in my accent from day one. I always found languages, dialects and accents interesting and even spent a few years learning French as a second language. In my current environment, I don't use it very often, but I still take advantage of it when I can. That includes, music, TV or a few coworkers that speak the language.

    Just a quick thing. You can drill and tap some 1/4” sample valves in the bottom of the filter bowls to drain each filter so less water and no need to have the container under it. I do commercial ultra filtration and in labs or rooms that no water worry about the excess water on the floor on the floor we install them. In boiler rooms etc we don’t. And one thing, for people watching this, only hand tighten the filters, over tightening can cause the ring to stretch and not seal again. Do not use filter wrench to tighten it. If it leaks remove it and clean the oring and channel it sits in lubricate it and reinstall.

    I use the size 1 and 1/0 Mustad hooks to freeline for snook ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 and they have been fantastic. The points are super sharp, and the hook is small enough to blend with my baitfish, yet large enough to land fish 30" or more. I also use these hooks when I'm pier or surf fishing with my kids. They tend to catch tons of smaller snapper, whiting, and catfish, and we get far fewer gut hooks with these Mustad in-lines, which means more of them survive after release. I was actually using these hooks when I caught my friend too, but I think that had more to do with the bait I was using ;-)
